Data Concentrator Unit

The data concentrator unit (DCU) is used to connect using G3PLC to all downstream data collectors or RS485 communication to meters directly. Upstream connectivity to the header end system can be GPRS or Ethernet. This device is used only with smart metering.

Data Collector

Data Collector (DC) consolidate RF or RS485 data from the water & electricity meters downstream and then uses G3PLC to connect upstream to the data concentrators. This device is used only with smart metering.

Three Phase CT Connect Electricity Meter

CT electricity meters are used to meter facilities where the maximum current exceeds 100 amps per phase. Typical applications are for bulk metering of complexes or commercial and industrial sites where the current exceeds 100 amps per phase. This meter is normally not used for domestic installations. These meters typically connect to the header end system using a GPRS modem and the DLMS protocol which is an industry standard for metering. This type of metering is not normally prepaid due to the large currents that need to be switched. It can be used in a prepaid mode if the e-wallet system is used.

Three Phase Direct Connect Electricity Meter

This meter can handle up to 100 amps per phase maximum and is connected directly to the line and load. No need for CT’s. It can run in a prepaid or post-paid mode. It can be used stand alone or integrated into a smart system by using GPRS modems or the RS485 communication bus with the Data Collector and Data Concentrator. These meters are fully STS approved and when connected to a smart grid can be used as a time-of-use meter, prepaid or post-paid currency based or unit based again depending on the meter supplier.

Single Phase Integrated Electricity Keypad Meter

This is a single phase BS Footprint electricity meter. The keypad and LCD are built into the metering device hence the word integrated. It can operate in a prepaid or post-paid mode. It can operate in a stand-alone mode or as part of smart metering electricity grid. It is usually used in domestic applications but can also be used in light commercial applications. This type of meter is normally mounted next to the distribution board so it makes for an easy retrofit into a granny cottage scenario. These meters are fully STS approved and when connected to a smart grid can be used as a time-of-use meter, prepaid or post-paid currency based or unit based again depending on the meter supplier.

Single Phase Split Electricity Meter

This is a single phase DIN rail mounted split electricity meter. This means the device that does the actual metering is separate to the user interface to the meter hence the word split meter. It can operate in a prepaid or post-paid mode. It can operate in a stand-alone mode or as part of smart metering electricity grid. It is usually used in domestic applications but can also be used in light commercial applications. This type of meter is normally mounted in a street kiosk or in a pole top meter box. The communication between the metering device known as the Measurement Control Unit (MCU) and the User Interface Unit (UIU) can be wired, PLC or RF, depending on the meter supplier. These meters are fully STS approved and when connected to a smart grid can be used as a time-of-use meter, prepaid or post-paid currency based or unit based again depending on the meter supplier.
